**** this Magic 3 shit mod! :(
All games work like a charm but I can't even play my favorite game (the reason why I bought a PS2 with an Magic 3 installed) GTA: Vice City because all my DVD copies freeze!
I tried 2 different (Maxell and Imation) media! :( Anyone knows a solution? What media is best for this game to burn on? |
The problem is Probably the media you are using. Try and get hold of DVDMaster or Traxdata or Ritek dvdr media. Any media with very dark purple write surface should be okay. the media with light purple surface are crap and you will have snags. Having said tha it also depends on the version of PS2 you have. Version 4 or lower and you will have probs, Version 5 or higher and you should be able to get away with using most dvdr media, however GTAVice uses constant streaming which is to say that it constantly reads the dvd while you play so unless you use good media then you'll have probs. Whatever version you have best to play it safe and use above media mentioned.
Good Luck!!!! and don't blame the mod chip as that probably aint the problem!! |
I have vice city burned @ 1x on traxdata! I now believe the magic3 does actually have a prob with this game cos I've tried it on a V7 with magic2 fitted & it plays without a prob.
I havn't tested it on the M2 yet & I don't have kingdom hearts which is also reported to have issues. How can it be poss for a game to freeze after it has booted? I dunno & to be honest, tis too deep for me anyway. |
when have a magic3. my gta vice city orignal did freeze but has yet to freeze when i use the correct boot method!
|
OK m8 - wot boot method do you use. Don't get me wrong, I've fitted loads of Magic3 (see my website), so if I can find a way to stop it freezin I'm gonna scream!
|
i use the offical boot method! starting from stanby with 1 click!
|
Yep, me 2 m8! I'm gonna mess around a bit see if I can suss it.
|
well keep tryin cuz it use to freeze for me but it doesn't ne more. try holdin it in 2.

Also works perfect on a NTSC PS2 with Messiah 2.....:)
@ Hull_chipper..... When will you have the Magic 3.1 (if you don't already)..... Just curious to see if it has the same problem with this game. |
Peeps are advertising 3.1 but shipping 3 so be careful! Should have it later this month tho. Vice City boots fine with Magic2, as already stated by Charlie (but, I'll never admit to the southern shandy drinkin poofter that I was wrong ;) )
I'm trying a few boot sequences with the magic3 & vice city, plenty peeps are booting it np. As for all the other issues raised by peeps about the Magics, I have found them to be totally unsubstantiated. |
i Finally tried a backed up copy of vice city, no freezes during intro or game, also no freezing during intro of kingdom hearts original either.
|
I finally got it 100% working on my Magic 3 chip!
This time I burned it on a Sony DVD-R on 1x speed with a Pioneer A04. |
What software did you 2 use?
|
I used Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0.
|
Ok, I used Traxdata with Nero 5.5.10 on a Pioneer A05. I do have Prassi so I'll give it a try.
|
Hi dust:)
On my Messiah 2, vice city freezes too! and the stupid loading sceen come up! I guess its the media. I read somewhere that even some original dvds have problems. I also tried my backup on a v3 - messiah also had the same problem. Guess what i turned the music down for options during the game, and it never froze again. what the hell is that? Anyway i posted a thread for weard things that go on, on my pal v7. |
Hi Filippos - nice to hear from you. Forunately the Loading screen is better than the freezing that happens on Magic 3.
It is because at fast speed the game had reach a point before the scene has been loaded into memory. It's a combination of things in the following order of importance:
We see this too and it's worse on DVD-Rs than on the original. Improves if we clean the lens sometimes. |
Hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm, that old saying - The old ones are the best :p LOL. I have GTA: Vice City on Traxdata running on a Messiah 1 and I have absolutely NO problems whatsoever...
