I have a Neo 4 chip installed in my ps2 and it has been working fine for the past 6 months. All of a sudden it is not reading any of my discs. I have tried dvd's, original & copy ps2 games, ps1 games and music cds.My browser screen comes up & I get sound but my discs don't boot up. I have opened the box & checked all wiring from the chip & all seem to be in tacked. I then checked the laser & there doesn't seem to be any beam emitting from it. On occasions a strong red beam will flash but it doesn't seem to hold it for very long. When I look down the barrel of the laser it has a very faint red light then it disappears. Is my laser stuffed or could be something else that powers the laser that could be the problem? What should the laser be doing when the power is on?
Can anyone help??? |

The laser should stay on while trying to read a disk. If it goes off, it can't find the groove so that usually means a worn DVD laser (you can only see it if it's trying to read a DVD - CDs are in infra-red band).
careful about looking down the barrel - it's a laser!
