Bioshock DVD9 to a SINGLE DVD5 [ENGLISH]

CAVEATS:

Needs a mini-image mounted to complete the install as this conversion is
not intended to circumvent the copy protection/activation, it's just to
help legitimate users make a backup of their DVD and still install it!

Use the 'Skullptura' mini image from here:
http://m0008.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_bioshock.shtml

You also need these files:

MediaCABTools and Layout.bin that transporter (thanks) posted in this thread:

http://fileforums.com/showpost.php?p=337793&postcount=73

Links still working as of this post!

Instructions
=========
1. Copy entire DVD to a temp folder. Make sure you have 15GB free space!!
2. Download and extract MediaCABTools.rar and layout.rar into another temp folder then
copy the 'ISCAB.exe', 'ISTools.dll', 'Mediabuild40.dll' and 'layout.bin' files into the folder where you
copied the files from the DVD, overwrite any files when asked.
3. Copy the attached 'LIST.TXT' file at the bottom of this post to the temp folder too.
4. Open a COMMAND window in the temp folder.
5. Type at the COMMAND Prompt: iscab data1.cab -r -i"list.txt"
6. Press ENTER and wait for your DVD to be made, it should total 3.82GB!
7. Edit setup.ini and make these changes:

[Startup]
EnableLangDlg=N

[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

then delete these lines:

key1=0x040c
key2=0x0007
key3=0x0010
key4=0x000a

8. Delete the 'ISCAB.exe', 'ISTools.dll', 'Mediabuild40.dll' and 'list.txt' files. DO NOT DELETE 'layout.bin'!!
9. Burn the files to a Re-Writable DVD. You can use any label, but I used BIOSHOCK for convenience, then simply mount mini-image and install!

If it all works OK then you can burn to a DVD-R.

Everyone thank Morglum007 @ CDSTEAM for the knowledge to be able to
do this converion :)

This may work for other languages, you just have to use ISCAB to create a new 'list.txt' then delete all info from it except the first 3 lines and the languages you want removed!

To make a new 'list.txt' type this command: iscab data1.cab -l -i"list.txt" and press enter. Then edit the list.txt as you need! The default language has to be changed too in setup.ini, so if you want FRENCH to be default install language then change the setup.ini to look like this:

Default=0x040c
count=1
key=0x040c

All languages used are:

0x0009 = English
0x040c = French
0x0007 = German
0x0010 = Italian
0x000a = Spanish

Hopefully y'all understood this drivel :)

*EDIT* Thanks Nameless and others for correcting my fuckup, i've edited the correct command line entry in now! Sorry for the that, it was very late at night or very early in the morning and I was tired :(

How do I open a command window in the temponary folder?

simplest method
search on my computer by any *.bat file
copy any [one file] to temp folder
edit, clear all contents and add
iscab data1.cab -r -i"list.txt"

save
run
that all

edit2
i think we need recompiled/new installer to skip mini image and activation

edit3
extract to temp folder ,replace all, run bat file for eng only or for 2xdvd5 complete backup

The easiest way to open command prompts is download this powertoy from Micro$oft:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/CmdHerePowertoySetup.exe

Install this program and it will add a DOS prompt here when you 'Right click' on an open folder, this will open a command prompt window for that folder!

You can use either i6comp (keeps the individual CABS) or ISCAB with the layout.bin which creates a single CAB!

mondragon
17-09-2007, 04:11
to make list to 1.txt file with iscab :
ISCAB.exe data1.cab -l -i"1.txt"
now open list and delete all what u want to stay in cabs
save
run this to delete from cab - not extract
ISCAB.exe data1.cab -r -i"1.txt"

iscab cant create folder and subfolder and show error - need to create folders and subfolders manual

and for all "medium to small" error need morglum's layout.bin

The only frontend is WinPack 3.00 for I6COMP, you can download Winpack 3.00 from this page:

http://snoopy81.ifrance.com/download.htm

You need WinPack beta v3.0.

OK, I've made it easier, I think!

1. Copy your Bioshock DVD to a temp folder.
2. Download this file: http://www.turboupload.com/download/1tzKV0ggyfgp/ISCAB.rar
then unrar the iscab.rar into the same folder you just copied your Bioshosk DVD, overwrite 'setup.ini' and 'layout.bin'
3. Go to the temp folder with your Bioshock DVD files in and double click the 'convert.bat' file to start conversion, WAIT until the dos box disappears.
4. Check you have a data2.cab of about 3.8GB, if so run 'cleanup.bat' to remove unwanted files then delete 'cleanup.bat' itself.
5. Burn to a DVD-RW to test the install!

Now all you have to do is mount the mini-image in daemon tools, run the installer from the converted DVD and wait for it to install!

If you don't get a data2.cab of 3.8GB then make a 'list.txt' file by opening a command prompt, navigating to the folder where you DVD is and typing in this command: iscab data1.cab -l -i"list.txt" then press your Return key to generate the list.txt and post it here!

Here is an easier way to convert to 1 DVD5!!

Using the tool below, I reduced the Version from 6.2GB to 3.89GB
which will fit onto DVD5. No Problems, Installs Perfectly. Language of Your Choice.

http://rapidshare.com/files/298325252/WinPack.zip

Original Structure from 6.2GB
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc267/pakrat2k2/original-1.jpg

Altered Files Using Winpack. ---> 3.89GB !!!!!
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc267/pakrat2k2/altered.jpg

Using Winpack 231, I was successful in removing any of the language specific files from the cabs, and reduce the size
from 6.2GB down to 3.89GB which will fit on DVD5. First I extraced the files to HD. Then start Winpack, make sure that Archive Type is set to IS6.0. Load each of the data cabs from 1-6, Individually and remove the languages you do NOT want in the final ISO.

http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc267/pakrat2k2/steps.jpg

1. Load cab file - IE : data1.cab
2. Verify name of cab file is correct.
3. Select the language group you do not want. In the screenshot group #6.
4. DELETE that group. ( WARNING in the later cabs 2-6 this can take a very long time 10-30 mins. )
Go BACK to #3, and continue for the rest of the groups, to the end of the file. ( groups 7-9 13-16, 19-22, 34-41. )
MAY not have to touch ANY other groups after data1.cab, Think it removes from cabs 2-6 as well ?!
DO NOT TOUCH any groups that you DO WANT, OR the securom groups.
5. When finished click on the hand, this saves the cab file.
6. Move onto the next cab file.

Enjoy your BIOSHOCK DVD5 in the language(s) of your choice.
