anyone good with computers??

im looking to get into virus removal for computers. Does anyone know what area of computers i would need to study up on? i dont see any courses on anti virus removal around. only web design etc..
A man removed virus from our computer using virus removal software.
Norton Anti-virus didnt pick virus up or the adware/spyware software i use.
He ran an expensive program that showed where the virus was etc and removed it then.
It the fact that he get 50euro an hour is whats nice.
anyone point me in the right direction?
i have already a good grasp of computers anyway..

I don't quite understand the question. Do you want to learn how to A) write virus scanner software or B) use a virus scanner software? For A), learn programming first; for B), read its documentation. Oh, Norton/Symantec and McAfee virus scanners are useless; use NOD32, Kaspersky or AVG instead!

Well AV's are all different.


He may have removed the virus, but there is no guarentee that it was completely removed and/or all virii on the PC was removed.


The only way to be sure is to do a complete reinstall, that way you know 100% there will be no virii left behind.

I use Avast home edition. You need to renew your license every year (free), but I don't mind.

I dont 'do' P2P, which is pretty much what you are buying when you use pay virus scanners. Avast works great in everything else.

Nod32 has a better overall score in comparisons to other retail virus scanning software. I would recommend that if you don't mind paying for Virus software, but have never used it myself.

Also, virus software is probably a minority when cleaning up machines. You are more likely to get adware than a virus. Actually, you are more likely to get 1 adware and the 50 others that it brings, than a virus.

try updating your norton anti virus..if still can't remove the virus/spyware. you can easily reformat your computer..it is the best way to remove virus/spyware..

i have to use norton on my pc in work, slows it down immensely and it totally sucks balls... so many false positives.... i'd recommend using something better personally... and i doubt im the only one with that advice

Zonealarm seems to work very well once setup although the 6.5 update crashed my computer big time, but heh still a good product!! :)

Use Adaware & Spybot S&D. A couple programs that have helped a ton.

Use AVG free version 7.5 it works for me and no such virus can penetrate my defences or am i wrong you work it out
Google search type AVG press enter download and update dont forget its free and appreciate the person in chek republic for distributing it at cost of $0:)

NOD32 is also from the Czech Republic and it's annoyingly cheap: some 40 USD a year for a home license... (My work place switched to it this year because everyone was fed up with Trend Micro... :D)

My personal opinions about AV appz:

Norton, never ever pay for it. Don't even use it if you get it for free. Slow as heck and not that good either.

F-Secure, better then norton but still not good IMHO.

Avast!, for being free it great and it mostly works great too.

NOD32, my personal preference. Haven't failed me once and works great.

Zone Alarm, I never liked the AV function in it.
