Hi guys,
Would really appreciate your help... I recently bought the latest slimline NTSC PS2 console V 14 (model SCPH 75001). Now I want to play PAL based game DVD on the system. Any idea if there are any modchips available for slimline V14?
I went to a site that had a product called "Swap Magic 3.6 disks along with a flip top cover for the PStwo slimline version". As per the web site this product allows you to play imported game DVDs (I am assuming PAL games are imported games) without installing any chip etc. Here's the link to the web page - http://www.modchipstore.com/PS2-Playstation-2-Two-Slim-Line-Flip-Top-Cover-V12-Swap-Magic-3--16204.html
Can anyone tell me howz this product and do you need to flash your chip before you can play imports as in the case of modchips?
Thanks,
Alfa
I would get a Infinity, Crystal Chip or a DMS.

Are these solderless or do I need to install the chips (like Matrix Infinity)? Also, are these chips supported for slimline V14 PS2 console?

Not as of yet. They are working on it. The V14 is very new.
V14 with swap magic works fine.
U'l need these tools (magic key 2) instead of the older ones ....

I sold my v12 and now running a v14 with this setup. Works okidokily :)

Spedmetal, I have heard that crystal chip is compatible with v14. Is it true?
Jay_83, Do I require magic key or any other tool to play the game with swipe magic? Can't I do it simply by using swipe magic disk?
Do let me know.
Crystal chip is compatable with v14.
You need the magic key 2 tools in order to make the ps2 think the drive is closed all the time, basically so that the disc will spin with the drive open.
Once you've got these in place (Only have to do once and piss easy to put in, no breaking of any parts and no breaking of the warrenty sticker) simply put in the swap magic disc, let it load, take out the swap magic and put the backup in. Press any button and thats it.
There are a very small amount of games that don't work with swap magic 3.6 and for the ones that don't easy workarounds are available.
If you're looking for an easier life with a pretty much guarenteed 100% success rate you'l be better off with a modchip.

Thanks Warlock & Jay_83 for ur responses.
Jay_83, I have one more query for u... are magic key 2 tools same as "PlayStation 2 PSTwo Slim Line Flip Top Cover" product which is mentioned in the link I put in my original post at the top? Do you think it does the same job as magic key tools?
Thanks.
Basically the flip-top does the same job as the tools, ie makes the pstwo think the drive's shut all the time but to be honest it's a complete waste of money.
To use the flip top you'l need to break your warrenty sticker rendering any warrenty (or all of it seeing as it's a v14) useless.
The tools do the exact same job, but are neater, and you won't lose your warrenty (Which is the whole idea of swap magic in the first place)

Thanks Jay... by any chance do you know of any other tools that can be used with swap magic and won't break the warranty of my PS2? Or can you direct me to a web site where I can find such kind of tools?

No other tool can be used with the new V14 as of yet apart from magic keys 2. Do a google for them :)

Are you really that concerned about the void sticker? Rip that thing off, shred it up, crumple it into a ball and bounce it off the cats forehead and wait for a mod chip to be released that works in the V14.

I am not bothered abt the warranty sticker and would luv to get my PS2 modded the first day a modchip comes out. But in case it takes a long time for a modchip for V14 console to come out, I will go for swap magic card and I definitely wouldn't want to lose my warranty for swap magic! That would be like getting worst of both the worlds... use swap magic and lose the warranty as well !!!
I havent installed a chip in a v14 yet but according to the Crystal chip website both CC1.0 and CC1.1 are compatable with the new v14.
IMO a modchip is the best way to go.

Warlock, as I understand it the crystal chip folks haven't come out with the installation diagrams for v14 so far. I think the chip is compatible with v14 but some more info is reqd before it can be installed on a console. Talked to spedmetal as well about it and he may have more info regarding the same.
In case there's any chip that comes out in the market for modding PS2 v14, I will be the first guy to get my system modded :)

Yes this is what they claim however the firmware for the V14 computability on the CC1.0 and CC1.1 has yet to be released.

Actually yes they have released the diagrams for the V14 installs already.

In fact here is a direct quote from the CC web site.
Thursday, 10 November 2005
We're near completion of our next software release. This release includes full support for the new v14 75xxx version PS2. As we've stated before, we will continue to support all revisions of our hardware as long as is possible. We're happy to say that all currently available revisions of Crystal Chips are compatible with v14. We realize that our customers, especially resellers, can be put in a bad position if a new console comes out which is incompatible with the chips they have. Thankfully we've designed our hardware well enough that it can withstand substantial changes to the console without losing compatability.
We expect to release this new software on Monday, 14 November. This release will be a beta version and follow it up with an official release once we get a chance to finalize some of the new features. This will allow us to get v14 support to our customers faster as well as giving other customers access to the cool new features we've added since our last update.

yeah, sure hope they do... I am planning to spend the long thanksgiving weekend playing my PAL game on the modded system :)
Would you be so nice and measure the tool C (3) for me?
I can't buy magic keys2 in my country so I would like to create one by myself - homebrew :)
I think just general sizes, height, lenght, angle of the thin part of tool C.
Thanks in advance,

The Crystal Chip CC1.0 and CC1.1 as can be confirmed working on a V14 with the most recent V1.7 firmware. The following is a picture of the CC1.1 is a SCPH-75001 V14 PSTwo.
