Hi, guy, 1st of all sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue.
I have a PS2 V4 without any mod-chip installed and I'm planning to buy a PSone to put it into my car, as I'm a proud "retrogamer". Anyway I don't want to mod the PSOne as I know there are several problems with it, but I also don't want to have my original games scratched as I play in the car or with my ps2, which have some laser problems. So I was wondering if making a PSX game back-up with ALCOHOL 120% and then burning it at 8X speed onto a Black CD could allow me to play back-up copies without mod-chips. If you have any advice, I would really appreciate it. Bye.

What problems from modding are you refering to?? Its the best way to go ;). Despite the fact original PSX games have black bottoms the black cd-r's have poor reflectivity and are not as good as Verbatim or TDK. None will work without a modchip.

I was talking about using cd-r 700mb with black bottoms :D officially "made to last forever" as they are more resistent to scratches, actually made for psx games. Anyway the modding probs I refer to are the fragility of the psone mochip and the necessity to use boot cd with certain games or certain types of cds.

First off there are NO cd-r's especially made for Playstation backups. If they claim this they are liar's. It is also a fact that black cd-r's have poor reflectivity and are not the best choice for PSX backups. This has been discused in this forum for well over 6 years now so to say this is "old news" would be a big understatement.

If your set against getting a chip you can try the PSX-Change boot disc. Not sure what they sell for now or how the game compatability is. In the long run you're better getting a modchip.

I'm not asking what's the best way to make psx backups, I only wanna know if a psx imagefile created and burned properly onto a black-bottom cd (black as the original one) can be read by a "clean" psone. From your last post I guess not....

ok thx for the patience then, anyway I have a last question: as I have 26 black cd's, I would like to use them, but not for audio cd's. So can I make psx back-ups or I'm gonna damage the lens by letting my modded psx read them?

The weaker the media the more stress it causes on the laser so yes over a period of time it will kill the laser a little faster. Its hard to say how long it will be though, I've seen lasers burn up in a week then again i've seen some consoles going strong over 2 years. Naturally its up to you but to me cd-r's are cheap so its better safe than sorry.
