I upgraded my HD to an 80 gig drive the other day. I know that Xbox live and mod chips are a no no. When I turn my mod chip off with the original game in the DVD tray it will not boot (as i have an upgraded HD).
Is there anyway to use Xbox live with an upgraded HD?
Also - what's the point of using drive drives E: and F: Is there limits to how much data I can put on each logical drive?
ok - I hot post i little too quick there. I know that I need to "lock" my HD to beable to play xbox live.
I have evox my bios is v1.8.3xxx - I do not have a option to lock my HD that I can find. Is there some other utility I need to dig up?

Has that xbox ever been on xbox live before the HDD upgrade?
No, I don't have broadband yet. But will in a few weeks, so going to check out XBL then.
I have been playing around with this a bit today. My evox.ini "Menu" section did not have a selection for "lock/unlock". I found this one on the forums here and cut/pasted it into my MENU area, rebooted and all. When I run the "Lock" selection, it give me the warning, and then tells me "done". However, after rebooting with mod chip off. I still get the error #13 telling me my xbox needs service.
My new HD is a new Seagate Ultra ATA/100, 80 GB. ($35 from best buy after rebates.) I am able to fill it up with the games and play the games with the mod chip.
Am I missing some utility to lock this drive - or perhaps this drive can't be locked?
Here is a cut of my evox.ini I am now using:

wait, isn't a upgraded harddrive and XBL a no go anymore if you didn't sign up prior to the new update? If my memory serves me right I'm sorry to say buddy that there isn't gonna be any XBL going on with an upgraded harddrive anytime soon. You'll have to go back to the original hdd.

If your xbox has never gone on xbox live, then MS did not record any data from your xbox yet. So, if you update the HDD BEFORE you go online, MS could not see a change in data when you log on live. So, upgrade before the xbox has EVER been on xbl, and you should be fine. I was (in a way).
Error 13 is a failed dash launch. Error 5 is an HDD unlocked error. Try replacing the original dash...the whole C drive and try again. It could be a missing file, corrupt, or edited.

AH that's what it was. Thanks for correcting me Quall.
OK never had an xbox live account before and never tried to go to the xbox live area, so I should be fine.
Just got broadband this weekend so interested in trying it out.
However, can't get this upgraded HD to lock. I use the X-ecuter 2 PRO, mod chip, evox 1.8.3 it tells me when I select lock to confirm and then "done" but won't boot and I can't confirm if it locked the drive or not.
(with mod chip running it works fine, just won't boo't with chip off)
Any other way to lock the drive? Or does this drive not lock?
tks

Use XBC (xboxconnect) www.xbconnect.com
a great service for halo2 and any other system link games and its free!

Wiggo. After you lock your HDD, go back into the evox setting menu. There is an option that will say if the hdd lock is enabled or disabled. What does it say?
If it is indeed locked, it is your dashboard (although, the error indicated that already). You have to find a replacement MS dash. Slayers Auto-installer should have it if you can find it.
@eakinsme (member.php?u=33269)
Evox hacking crew made an accident in allowing their halo 2 trainer to be played over network games. They said they won't allow network cheats in furture games. Basically, xbc could have many cheaters in it with super jump and whatnot. X-link has already been ruined if I recall. There was a big thread about it on xbox-scene. I used to play on xlink before this happened. I myself have never come across any cheaters, but it wasprobably because I have xbl.

wiggo, launch the MS xboxdash from the evox menu, and post what happens (if it boots or not).
