I've got this v4 ps2, and its working fine afaik, not modded, but the tray is not opening. i ran it with the cover off n stuff, but it doesn't even attempt to open it, so there's nothing stuck or anything. i saw lufcfan say something about it here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=66213), but i dont know which ribbon cable is meant.
so, the question is, does anyone have an idea why the tray is not opening?

well, the cable was already damaged when i got the ps2, but i ran it with the ribbon cable of my other ps2, which works fine (even after reassembling my good playstation again, so the ribbon cable is not the problem). so, with the cable not being the problem, do you have any other ideas?

anyone?
Try to open the cdrom and check the tray... I have v4 and the kid dropped the PS2, the tray won't open... It happened twice... the tray mechanism just jump out of it's tray path :)
Hope that works :)

i already opened it, it was the first thing i did of course. im quite positive that i got the mechanism right, but its still not working... so its not the mechanism, and not the ribbon cable... any other ideas?
@ lufcfan, you told here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=66213) that you had a problem wit hthe tray not ejecting on a version 5. it was something with the white ribbon cable. could you tell me what the problem exactly was, so i can check it?
Sure thing m8.
If you take the DVD-ROM drive off the PS2, you should see three cables. One from the laser, another brown one from the worm screw motor and another coming from a small green PCB - it's white with 5 pins. These pins are soldered in place, but can easily come off or snap off from the contact point. Check all the pins are still in place. If you find some have come off, take the cable off completely, strip some of the coating back so you reveal the strips inside, lay the cable back on the contact points ( right way up of course ;) ) and then melt solder over the top of the pins and onto the contact points. Your cable should now be back on, and then the PS2 should fire right up and eject as normal :)
EDIT: Be very careful though, the pins are fairly close together...

i see, thanks for the reply
but its working already now. turns out the problem was the electromotor of the tray itself. when i pushed the eject button with the motor exposed, and i moved it with my finger a bit, it would sometimes 'catch up' and continue. while fiddling with it a bit, and trying to work out how to fix it, it went working better and better, annd now it works all the time. i dont know for how long though, since i didnt really do anything to it... ow well, its working now, ill look at it again if it stops, but now im gonna order a ribbon cable, cuz i used the one from my good ps2.
That may have been all it needed...
