Other DVD-burner options please?

Okay, I have a Pioneer A04 in one of my computers which works great and I use it to back-up my PS2 games; that's easy. But the model is so popular (and old) that they're impossible to find for a reasonable price. Does anyone have any suggestions for an affordable, comparable, currently-on-the-shelves, model? Since XBOX back-ups are data burns rather than image burns, can I assume that a wider range of DVD-burners will suffice?

But what I wanted to do (actually, in the process of doing) was building a itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny shuttle system to keep next to my XBOX for more convenient back-ups of my XBOX games. As it is now, I've got to disconnect the XBOX, take it into the computer room, disconnect said computer from the broadband router, get the crossover cable, connect the XBOX to the computer, change the computer's IP, FTP the two together, transfer files... yadda yadda yadda.

Suggetions would be greatly appreciated.

i know im of subject but id just like to offer some advice
if i where you i would just spend the money on i bigger hdd then you don't have to have all these dvd and crap and i know a guy hue can huck you up pretty cheap

Wouldn’t it be really sweet if some DEV group made Burner software for the Xbox to run. The burner would have to be a USB drive burner. Hacking a Control port to USB cable is very easy. I believe you can get IDE to USB external case kits for CDROMS, I know Hard Drive ones for sure.

Well, you can get a TDK 4X DVD+/-RW for 70 bucks. I have never used it, but there drives are what I've used in the past and have proven good. Or a Sony 4x dvd-, 8x dvd+ burner for $130 (a tdk 8x on both +/- for same price). I mean, that is already such a cheap price, I don't know how you can ge one cheaper.

I don't know how much longer it will last, but it is a good price. Sony is at the same site.

Ah, no, don't get me wrong, those are great prices. I was just taken aback when I went to search for the old Pioneer A04 I have (that I paid $108 for) and only found an aftermarket price in the range of $300-$400. I'll pay for a good, reputable burner, I just wanted suggestions for what might be out there. Thanks for the suggestions...

Yeah, I thought about that for a while...
I have a 120GB right now and for the amount of games I currently own, it's sufficient. I know I can get a bigger HDD, but I was calculating... I'm not planning on buying that many more games, plus there are only a handful of games I play after I've beaten them or simply lost interest. Spending for more HDD GB just doesn't seem worth it. That, and an additional DVD writer would be more versatile. Thanks though...
