Please Help.
I bought Halo Combat Evolved for my son for Christmas. He installed it on to his computer. Now, we can find the disc but cannot find the CD Jewel Case with the cd key on it. Can anyone tell me if the cd key would be in a file on our computer. I am worried that I have thrown the Jewel case out with all the used Christmas wrapping paper. If the cd key isnt in a folder or file somewhere - do I contact Microsoft for a new key and will they give it to me??? The cd was bought on Ebay.
Thanks

If I remember right the CD key is on the jewel case for Halo. If the game was used maybe someone kept the key and sold you the disc. I'm not sure what Microsoft will say but I'm curious how they would treat your situation. They'll probably want proof of purchase would be my guess.

Yes the cd key is on the Jewel Case. We had the Jewel Case - The game is installed on the computer. Now I can't find the case - I need to know if the key code is installed on my computer (I should imagine it would be) and where I would find it.
Try searching for the term "Halo" in your registry (start regedit) !
I don't know if it's there, but Chrome and all the EA Games put the keys in the registry...

I realy don't think anyone can supplie you with a new key code. Don't even know if microsoft tech support can do that.
Speak of nothing, Microsoft Key Code product in games is very buggy......:D

Looked in the registry, can not find anything. I was hoping someone would know where to look.
Will contact Microsoft, but the only proof of purchase will be the ebay "Items you have Won" page - hopefully they will accept that.
Thanks for your help anyway - very nice of you to help out an old woman. lol

You could contacted MS "Microsoft" and see if you can send them your unreadable Original CD. Thats what you tell them. That the ORIGINAL that you own is not working anymore. At that point request a cd key also. See what they have to say about it anyway As that would be your only hope of a new key.
My Halo came in a Card Board Case, and a yellow label on the back has the number on it.

In registry
look under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then expand Software
and look for the publisher of the game i think its Bungie
then try and look for settings under that
if its going swell finally look for key or something similar.
Hope that provides any help

Tried a few tricks and could install halo again but could not play over the net.
Finally did what I should have done in the first place and rang Microsoft in Aust. They are generating a new cd key for me, which should be available within 3 days. Will keep you posted to see if they come through.
They ask for the code on the silver side of the cd.
Thankyou so much everyone for your help.

Microsoft sent new cd key via email the same day - they were extremely friendly and efficient. I was very impressed.
Thankyou everyone - I appreciate your time and trouble in responding. Take Care. Thanks again.:)
