First I want to say thanks to HANS_COBBO for his help however I went after work to use the recorder for the first time using record now max but the program would not recognize the burner EXCEPT in the wizard mode?? and NERO would only recognize it as a cd burner. I did using the record now back up two games that worked fine however I am worried about the compatability of this dvd burner especially since NERO wouldn't recognize it as a dvd.

NERO 5 I bought and is new fairly,
Record now 4.5 , just downloaded the program (the free trial version)
LG DVD burner

Now I know a few people who bought the SONY and I was thinking of doing the same except it is 150$ more than the LG is it worth the price difference?? And does any with XP Home have an LG burner or the Sony that had any conflicts ??

I guess what I am concerned with really is that I want to use the dvd burner for more than games and for the life of me I can't figure out why those programs won't recognize the dvd burner? if it was just one program I would think its the program, Now when I first installed the burner XP used its own drivers, would those XP drivers be any different for the SONY model just confused as hell!! and why would only the wizard identify the burner, when I first open the Record Now I get a message unable to recogize something about recordable media devices anyone with any ideas??

Would Nero being the version 5 and Record Now being the trial version have anything to do with this problem?

Glad i could help!

If your having problems with RNM not reconizing the drive correctly you might need the latest PX engine.

http://support.sonic.com/downloads/engine.asp

Unistall RNM, install the px engine update then re-install RNM for best results.

'RNM' is an abbreviation for Record Now Max:p

It's been awhile but I seem to remember that Nero gave me a few problems at first too. I think it was fixed by either a Nero update or a firmware update for the drive. I *think* that my drive wasnt supported until the 5.5 update and plain ol Nero 5 wouldnt work. Now it works just fine so it must have been one or the other.

I did the firmware update and now Nero recognizes the drive. However am I correct in the Nero 5 does not support dvd recording at least it dosen't allow me to choose that option. Second does Nero allow you to upgrade free to 5 to 5.5 or do they charge for that as well.

1. Yes I am pretty sure DVD support was not finalized until 5.5

2. Yes if you have 5.0 you are allowed to upgrade up to 5.5.10.42

They are no longer offering the upgrade to 5.5 thats BS. I think I may e mail them and explain I just bought the program and have the receipt to prove it and if a store sells the product they should support it. Damn greed!!

Now that 6 is out they quit supporting it.
