If you don't think that maybe you should backup a hard drive BEFORE you start jerkin around with it - maybe you should have somebody who knows what they are doing work on your Xbox.

What kind of tutorial says to change hard drive data without backing it up first?

This is what it said.

Setting Up the EvolutionX Dashboard

1. The first thing that you will require is a mod chip in your Xbox, such as a "homebrew" with the EvolutionX v2.1 or v2.2 BIOS, Xtender v1.0 or v1.1, Enigmah, etc.

2. Burn the EvolutionX ISO onto a CD-RW, or DVD-R/RW. If you do not know how to burn a disc yet, please visit here.

3. Now, place your newly created disc into your Xbox, and then the following screen should appear:

4. Scroll down to Network, and make note of the IP address which should have been assigned by your DHCP server. It should be something like: 192.168.0.x (where x is a number from 1 - 255).

5. In your FTP program, such as FlashFXP, go into the Site Manager (F4), create a new site, and put in the IP address of the Xbox (which you obtained from the previous step), eg: 192.168.0.2. Press Apply, then Connect, in order to connect to the Xbox.

Once connected, you should see the following on your screen:

Â

6. The first thing that you should do is backup your original xboxdash.xbe in the C/ drive, by copying it over to the hard drive on your PC.

Â

7. Now, instead of deleting the xboxdash.xbe off the Xbox HD, simply rename it to something like: xboxdash_old.xbe.

Â

8. You can now copy over the EvolutionX dashboard onto your Xbox HD. Head over to the D/ drive, and copy over the default.xbe over to your C:\ drive on your PC hard drive. From here, copy it to the C/ drive on the Xbox HD.Â

9. Once it is on the C/ drive, rename the file to xboxdash.xbe.

10. You can add a link to the original Xbox Dashboard by editing the menu.ini file.

So can anybody Help

first of all have you screwed up you'r hd ?

i ask this because if you have not then do this. create a backup of you'r hd now. delete the evox file you re-named to xboxdash.xbe and re-name you'r original dash that you named to xboxdash_old.xbe to xboxdash.xbe all should now be ok.

now you have a original backup do what i said on the backup and not on the xbox itself.

if you have screwed up you'r xbox then find some one with a backup of their original.

next time use common sence and back it up before you screw with it.

p.s take a look at the rules DO NOT ASK FOR DOWNLOADS

Number 6 looks like "first thing that you should do is backup your original " to me.

As usual Xbox master Dude is probably right. If all you did was screw up the naming of the dash then you should be able to change it right back.
