is it possible to downsample the music/sound/voices in jet grind radio. if so, what are some of the tools i might need.

i like to put more than one backup game on a cd and jgr is 570MB big. i want to downsample some files so that i can fit at least 2 games on one cd.

so is it possible to downsample the music and which files are they?

You can downsamble videos (.SFD) or sound files (.ADX / .AFS). Check for them.

ok, i know about adx files now. i just have to convert them to wav files, downsample the wav, then convert it back to adx.

i don't know how to do it with afs files. i know that they are a bunch of adx files packed in one file and i found a tool to unpack the .afs file to reveal the adx files. i have to covert the adx like i said up above. but how do i repack the afs file? i need a tool for that, but where?

Just to the same as they were individual files. Then join the extracted ADX from the AFS using a tool called AFSLINK. Look for the Darkfalz´ tools page. There are very useful programs there to make things like you want.

ok, i searched google for info and i found the tools,

adx2wav
wav2adx
afslnk

a program to loop the new adx files and a simple program to downsample the .wavs. i'm gonna have to test this out sometime during the week. i hope it all works.

Use ADXENCD instead of WAV2ADX. The last one has serious problems with sound quality. The first is the best and you also can loop them.

ok, i'll have to get that app. thanks for the look out. i'm gonna test it all out today.

btw, have u ever downsampled music/sound before in a DC game? if so, which games and how long did it take for each game?

alright. i downsampled all that i could and now i cut the size of the game from 600MB down to 330MB. yyyeeeahhhhh..!!!! i d/s the adx to 8000khz/mono. i've been testing it and its really low quality. it sounds like i went from a 100 watt stereo to a clock radio!!!! but there are still some sounds and music that are high quality. i guess they are in some of the bin files in a afs file. or maybe i missed a file or two. well, the internet function doesn't work. i'll have to patch those files.

anyway, now i can maybe put 2 more small games on this cd.

I´ve only downsampled audio / music usually to make the data fit on a single CD, no other reason.
Also por replacing music is fun. Crazy Taxi with your own music taste is really good.
I don´t think that downsampling on JSR is a good idea. The music is very important there.

yeah, i might try changing music in crazy taxi 2 sometime.

and the music in jgr is pretty cool. i might re-encode the adx files to a higher khz. maybe 22khz/mono. it'll prolly up the size to 400-410MB?? at least i can fit 1 other game in there.
