no_cd help

i hope someone can help me i am new at this and would like to no if someone can tell me to make the cracks up for no-cd i would like to get in to this and have got the time to do it the frist game i would like to do is ra2 yuri's revenge

You are talking about reverse engineering a complex commercial copy protection.
Try Unsafedisc ver2.xx.xx first, as I believe this game is sd2 protected, and you may well get a no-cd loader created.

If you are serious about having a go at cracking you'll need...
1. SoftICE, by Numega
2. Win32Dasm, disassembler
3. Hiew, hex editor/disassembler
4. Lots of tutorials on setting up SoftICE, how to use it to crack.

I cannot give you more info, as it isn't as easy as you may think. There are many variables. e.g.

Is the game fully installed, or does it look for files to load from the cd? Is the actual loader encrypted within the game executable (as in sd2)? Is the executable itself packed or encrypted to prevent disassembling?

Your best bet is to do a google search for stuff like "cd crack tutorials" etc. Do LOTS of reading and be ready for lots of trial and error as you learn.

yes it is sd2 protected and i have used unsafedisc to unprotect the yuri.exe and that has all been done the thing i need to know now is how to make it no-cd i will get the software you said i have already got

but will get the rest right now can you help me do this i am new at this but i am really serious about it any help would be great i am going to do this if it kills me.
i have had a look a little bit into the game and i know that it loads on startup gamemd.exe yurimd.exe and yuri.exe but as far as i could see out of these the only one that had the protection was yuri.exe

sorry i forgot to say that if it is the same as ra2 it will be looking for the *.mix files on the cd. which you would copy over the the dir where the game is installed which i have already done but with the crack that i made it is still asking for the cd to be in the cd player
so as far as i know when the cd start loading the 3 files i said above must hold the cd letter where the cd is

Would it help to look at the no-cd crack for RA2? Maybe you could kind of reverse engineer one for Yuri? Just a suggestion as I am even newer to this than you are. Anyway the RA2 crack I have works great. If you get the Yuri one going I sure would love a copy.

Hi there

There is a good tutorial by a cracker called yates, which describes how to crack the original red alert.
You are right about the e:\game.mix file.
You'll have to copy it to the game directory and read his tutorial to understand how to trace the relevant sections of the loader's code.
