View Full Version : Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - Any success?
Hello!
I'd like to know if anyone has been successful at creating a playable Tony Hawk's ( Hawk ) Pro Skater 4 ( THPS4 ) backup disc. (NTSC version here.)
I have created backups using Nero, CloneCD, Alcohol 120%, and CDRWin with no reported errors, and used Taiyo Yuden cdr's as well as LiteOn and Imation. All start spinning, but that's it. I never get any further.
Searches for patches or clues were unsuccessful.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi again!
I need to add something to this. I just installed the ePSXe emulator and my THPS4 backup works fine there. What exactly does that mean for me now?
I'm using a LiteOn 40125S burner, and have created backups on the same system before, that did work on the playstation.
Thank you very much!

Firstly, I would have to assume that you have a mod chip in your PSX, or have a Game Shark, Game Enhancer, or some such device that will allow you to play the games in the first place.
I just burned a backup of THPS 4 this evening to test this for you. It worked on ePSXe, and on the PSX with a Game Shark cartridge inserted.
I used Alcohol 120% to burn the backup, reading at full speed, burning at 8x.
Thanks a lot glen4cindy,
so I know the mistake/error must be on my end then. I'm using a Game Enhancer, yes. I'm going to try it again. I appreciate that you tested it for me, very cool. Thanks again!

Ok, I wanted to post an update. After burning the 4th backup without success, I thought I'd check into lens issues due to the fact that it played fine using an emulator. I have other backups that play fine on the playstation, but with THPS4 I had no luck.
So at http://www.geocities.com/psxrepair/ I found a tutorial for lens cleaning. I completed step 1 (cleaning the lens with a cotton swap dipped in lighter fluid), but that didn't help any. Although I didn't think it would do any good I went ahead and completed step two, taking the playstation lens cover unit apart, removing all grease, cleaning the parts with lighter fluid, then greasing them again. I skipped the lens power adjusting part.
To my total surprise my backup now runs on the playstation!
Thanks for reading!
