Is anyone using the Sony DRU500aX to burn? (not the DRU500a)
I know someone who just got this burner, and is having trouble burning iso files. And not just xbox iso files (it burns everything but game iso's and retail DVD movie iso's). He creates them right and everything is perfect. He definately knows what he is doing. He's tried many different type of burning software and each time, the burning process cuts out almost right before the iso finishes. (it isn't the media).,
I have this burner on backorder, but am skepticle if I should still get it. The AX is the same as the DRU500a, but with upgraded firmware. The DRU500a's are no longer being made, and cannot be found at any stores near me. I was really looking forward do this burner because it burns dvd+ and dvd-. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having problems.

yah thanks. I read about them and they are basically the same, accept the firmware is different to increase read/write speeds. Also, some burning programs tend to not work with it (which is why RecordNow AX comes with it).
The reason I was asking is because a friend bought it. The only burners I see people talk about are pioneers. Every iso he burns cuts out before it finishes. He wasted 10 dvd's already. I was gonna drop my order and find something else, but since it appears to work fine for you, I will take my chance and buy it. Thanks again.

thanks, nobody else on any other forums replied. I believe i will get this burner then.
Freakzilla is right, the DRU-500AX is just the DRU-500A with the firmware update for the DRU-500A, nothing more.
I have the DRU 500 A with the latest firmware (1.0g)
With the older firmware (1.0e) I made working backups of my games NBA2003, Splinter Cell and Micro MAchines.
After upgrading the firmware every game I tried to backup (FIFA2003, CmRAE3, DOA3) doesn't work on my XBOX (evolutionX and Xecuter 2 Lite installed). I usually get a blank or blue screen and nothing afte that.
I use FlashFXP and XISO and eveything seems to be going OK.
I tried Recordnow and Nero with the same results.
Din't try yet to backup again NBA2003, Splinter Cell and Micro MAchines.
Any ideas?
Is there a possiblity some games to be copy protected?
as far as i know xbox games don't have any copyrite protection.
have you tried a "DATA BURN" yet if not then try it this may help you.:D
What do you mean my ''data burn''?
I think that when you have to burn an ISO image you don't have this choice.
In any case the games I menioned where written sucesfully with RecordNow (no options at all)
i was simpley asking if you had tried to burn these games using the data burn method as i have found this method to be very reliable and sorts most problems when burning xbox games.

I have been backing up Ps2 games for awhile but i just started X box and doing data burn has work for me 10 out 10, but when i tried to do a iso it just made a coaster. i Learn how to back up x box games from "DUDE" and i will use the data burns all the times its a better cause you can edit your file
USE The data burn i love it

I actually got the burner yesterday (finally). Burned a game with Dude's method using RecordNow DX; it worked like a charm.

I think it's great, and I'm pretty sure it really is the best one to but at the moment. It burns 4x speed and can write to both dvd+ and dvd-. I recommenc this to anyone. The software it came with (recordnow dx) is really nice too. Better set up as well.
Sorry for incisting on this, but could you please explain the difference between data burn and iso burn?
Do you mean (data burn) just to drag & drop the files downloaded from xbos without using an iso creation tool (e.x. xiso). I thought that wouldn't work.
Thanks for the help

Data is selecting files from your PC and burning them strait from you hdd to the media. iso burn is burning an iso image, which is one huge file with everything included inside. Kind of like a zip file, with no compresion.
Yest I know that, but I had the impression that this wouldn't work with xbox games.
So you are saying that using Nero, selecting DVD-ROM (not UDF or anything else) and dragging the files downloaded from the XBOX is actually working?
If that's correct what't the use of all these x-iso builders?
I thougt that this would lead to an incompatilbe DVD disc with xbox.
hi just to elaborate this is the "DATA BURN" method i use.
1. first connect your chipped xbox to your pc using evox and a ftp programme "i use flash fxp v2.0 build 908"
2. create a temp folder on your pc label this whatever you want, transfere the game data from the xbox dvd drive "D" to the temp folder on your pc.
3.open your chosen burn software "i prefere recordnowmax 4.50 i have had no failures using this prog." close the auto wizard and go to the main bar at the top of the programme. click file-new-data disc.
4. minimise recordnowmax and open the temp file which contains the xbox game data. select all files highliting them blue and press copy using the right mouse button.
5. maximise recordnowmax and paste all the game data in to the provided burn window.
6. insert blank dvd-r and press ok.
7 sit back , watch some tv and in no time you will have a finished xbox game.
this method is in my opinion the best available and i have created over 80 backups with absolutley no problems at all.
Thanks.
Yes, that I had in mind but I thought that was not working.
I will try a couple of games that didn'w work with iso and revert.
P.S. 1 If that's the way, why all the fazz with ISO tools?
P.S. 2 what about the label of the new data disc?
hi
yes this method will work.
1. don't realy know seems like people trying to make it hard for themselves. i have always used the data burn method
2.label the disc any thing you want. if the programme gives you the option to label the disc do it.
Thanks,
I will try and revert.
