I get a Kernal mismatch error.

Does anyone know if the alternate way of updating the fw will work for OEM drives (using a dos boot disk) ?

Who has a 104 and has updated their fw ? How'd you do it ?

Here's what the pioneer fw checker told me...

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
Current Revision : 1.31
Release Date : 02/06/20
Model : Not pioneer model. (OEM products)

This firmware is already latest version.
This firmware does not need to be updated.

There are different update utilities for different OEM drives, but I can't determine the source of my drive. ex - NEC, COMPAQ, SOTEC

Did you download the newest firmware from the Pioneer site here (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/Files/AAR04v140.exe) or are you trying update through Windows update? It sounds like you are trying to do it through Windows update. You need to download the file above to upgrade. It is the newest version available from the Pioneer web site.

Nope. That's the same file I've been trying to use.

It opens a dos window, and displays my 104 drive info. Asks if I want to update the firmware, and I click yes. Then it gives me the "Model name of kernal part is not matched."

Then it says (0) drives updated succesfully.
