ok guys.............i know its either the sony or the panasonic writer, but heres my question, i have a version 4 pal PS2 and want to make backups of my DVD games, i am right in thinking i need to use DVD R's to do this, so which one is the best or are they pretty much the same as far as making ps2 backups are concerned ,which software is the best to use with the different writers.......basically what would i need to get with my burner to backup my games with!!!

I hope you meant to say Pioneer not Panasonic. Since you have a v4, dvd-r will work best. In your case you don't really need the +r option the Sony gives you so you can save a little money by going with the Pioneer.

Like Bighap said..... Pioneer (NOT PANASONIC)......

Use Clone CD for your cd based backups and RecordNow Max for your dvd based backups.....

Also, what mod chip will you be using to boot these backups?

There are some import games like Xenosaga that are dvd9. None currently in the US but Devil May Cry 2 is coming out in two weeks and is expected to be dual layered.
