and i'd prefer the Pioneer as it is NZ$200 cheeper here .......

BUT! , i've been searching the net allday for info and i've read the A05 has some limitations re CD burning with cloneCD & EFM correction ... resulting in an inablity to write protected CD's

eg

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=Pioneer+DVR%2DA05&index=7

&

http://www.dvdwriters.co.uk/reviews/pioneer/dvr105p7.htm

but some of your posts on this page seem to contradict this? .. so what is it? can the A05 write Safedisk 2.51+ ....... and what of the claims on the cloneCD site about it's latest version sw with it's new emulation features?

http://elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/revision.html

and so if the case is that the pioneer can't ......... does the sony ?

thing is i only have one slot free in my pc case for a disc drive .... external is too costly ... so i'd like a good CD/DVD rewriter ... i don't care about +R/RW support as ps2 backup's are my main interest here.

so yeah ....what i'd like to hear here is that the A05 CAN copy protected CD's ... OR that the sony is no better in this regard :D

also any other features, apart from +r support that could possably make be spend the extra $200nz on the sony?

cheers guys.

If you are going to be burning PS2 games none of this matters. PS2 dvd games have no protections. CD based(blue backs) do but all you need is a CloneCD compatible cd burner. You can check your burner compatability here (http://www.elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/writers/a.html).

the sony drive doesn't have EFM either ..... so both drives sound the same in that regard.
