nero 5 burning problems

I am so green at this genre somebody just tried to string lights on me but I have a problem with Nero 5.0. Actually I have upgraded to the most recent version but cannot make a copy of my new MW4. Every other time I have used y burner there have been no problems. This time it won't even read the CD let alone burn it......my guess is there are some basic setting s I need to change for it to work but again I am a true newbie so I'd like to hear what the gurus can share.
