yeah plextor is fine mate a dvd writer will (dont quote me on this)bujt will only write onto dvd ram so a dvd player wont even recognise this format because they rely on a rom disc you would have to convert all the vob files on your dvd disc then convert them into an mpeg/mpeg2 stream before burning them onto a CDR and then they will play on your p.c or even in your dvd player providing your player supports the cdr format

Hope this helps

Actually as I mentioned earlier on the other topic but DVD-Ram Drive and DVD-R Drive are totally 2 different things..
With DVD-R drive burning DVD-R's is quite simple process(Sort of Speak)with the right Tools Hardware+Software and then it's possible to playback on virtually any Home DVD players and PC interface..
Where the DVD-Ram drive is sort of like Tape drive with almost same capability except you CAN ONLY play it back through DVD-Ram Drive ONLY!!
As for DVD-R Blank's it's down to $8.00 a piece not $24.00..So it's not too bad..
DVD-R Drive is about $630.00 compared to Ebay's Crazy price of $700 and over..
I could tell you which website carries it for Super low price..Pioneer Model#A03 IDE Interface Version which is great because it burns CD-R and CD-RW as well with DVD-R and DVD-RW..
By 2002 DVD-R will probably drop to about somewhere between $2-$3.00 a piece..
