First, what is the difference between DVD and VCD? Secondly can you copy DVD or VCD and if so what is needed? Where can you buy disks as large as the DVD disks, what programs can you use. I have a couple of games that are really taking a beating with the kids and would like to back-up.
Thanks for any help.
Yes, you can backup DVD and VCD (Frankly speaking you can backup nearly everything...)
I can tell you how to backup DVD:
Get yourself the following tools:
The ones with (GCW) can be downloaded on Gamecopyworld, as far as I know.
Otherwise go to
www.7thzone.com
1.DVD-Ripper (e.g. DOD Speed Ripper)(GCW)
2.DivX ;) Codec
3.FlaskMpeg
4.VirtualDub (GCW?)
When you've got these you have all you need...
1.Rip the DVD files to your Harddrive
2.Convert the VOB files to AVI files by using FlaskMpeg and the DivX ;) Compression
(For all the settings check out the help files included in the Tools)
3.Encode the audio files with VirtualDub
4.Burn your output file onto a CD-Rom
5.Enjoy the high quality (not as good as DVD, but still superb) video
NB: You'll need at least 8GB on your HD and about 15 hours to encode the video file, the audio takes only about 15 minutes...

I saw what you said 69 but can you make a perfect back up of A dvd with a dvd writer, as though it was the real one?
No, unfortunately at the moment it isn't possible to CREATE DVD's, but the quality of the backups created using the divx ;) codec are superb. Actually, there is some software that enables you to create your own DVD's.... the only problem is that you can only create DVD using a DVD-writer which is bloody expensive!!! :(
ok I think I understand to a certain extent but here is my question...I have an RCA that doesnt play CDR's which is what I gather will be used for copying the dvd's. So therefore I will not be able to play them in home dvd player is that correct?
or would I have to play them on my computer and run a coax output all the way to the living room in order to view them on the the big 32'' tv?
or what home dvd player will play back up copies of dvd movies?
any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated...

I just purchased a DVD player that reads Cdr,CdRw, VCD and also mp3 files. Also it isn't affected by the region codes on the DVD movies. It is the Hitachi DV-P505U. So far I am happy with it.

Db69,
Where do I aquire all of this software you mentioned?? Besides the ripper?
Thanks
I haven't even heard of those items before
Hi everybody!
It seems that you've got problems finding the stuff I mentioned:
Try
www.dvdcopyworld.de
and surf the links!
It's been a long time since I downloaded that stuff, sorry!
But you need the Divx ;) Codec, FlaskMpeg and VirtualDub! There is a new application
DVD2DIVX GUI
but it doesn't work that well yet, only the Smartripper included in it is very useful to decrypt encrypted DVD's....
I hope that helps!?!
C ya,
DB69
Hi again!
I've been doing a bit of research:
Well, you can get all the mentioned Programs under
www.dvdcopyworld.de
By the way, the Smartripper is available there without being included in the dodgy, malfunctioning Program!
